  About ProQuest
In this digital age, it's easy to forget that not so long ago, the vast majority of books and publications simply weren't available to most scholars and researchers, let alone the general public.

Major research collections were held by only a handful of libraries worldwide, so accessing the most important scholarly works of the day could be a lengthy and cost-prohibitive pursuit.

In the early 1930s, a young man from Ann Arbor named Eugene Power began applying himself to these problems of access. His goal was two-fold: "To preserve information... and to release readers from the limitations of the printing press." Today ProQuest continues to follow his mission.

As a result of agreements with more than 9,000 publishers worldwide, we provide access to information from periodicals, newspapers, multimedia and image collections, out-of-print books, dissertations, and scholarly collections in various formats. Our ever-changing archives include more than 5.5 billion pages of information, spanning 500 years of scholarship, in formats that range from print to microform to digital.

Our archives, in turn, are carefully organized, indexed, and inserted (in their full-text) into one or more databases. These databases, including SIRS, eLibrary, ProQuest, and many others, are made available on a subscription basis to schools and libraries around the world.

Each database offers a set of resources that assist everyone from general researchers to those searching for historical or even science-related content. Subscribers use their computers to access our databases via the Internet. (Read our full catalog for additional information.)

Recently, ProQuest Company (NYSE: PQE) closed on its transaction with Cambridge Information Group (CIG), under which CIG has acquired its ProQuest Information and Learning segment. CIG has combined its Bethesda, Maryland-based CSA subsidiary with Ann Arbor, Michigan-based ProQuest Information and Learning to create a new, privately held independent company, named ProQuest.

Today, researchers, educators, librarians, and administrators in more than 80 countries rely on our online information resources to:
  • Provide landmark articles and a broad range of electronic resources that illuminate all aspects of the most vital issues of our time
  • Provide comprehensive, easy-to-use research and educational solutions to power high-end research, K-12 learning, and increase student achievement at all levels
  • Enhance curriculum with age-appropriate, high-quality digital content from primary and secondary sources spanning thousands of titles and multiple media types
  • Inspire students to reach their fullest potential in the core curricula of Language Arts, Social Sciences, the Sciences, and Mathematics; and secondary curricula including the Arts, Multicultural Studies, and Technology and Vocational Education
Our research solutions are designed to support the widespread, integrated, sustained, and effective (WISE) use of technology to help K-12 schools develop educators' skills and improve student achievement at every grade level.
